Happy New Year to You and Happy Birthday to Me!
From Vivian
As we prepare to close out 2025 and welcome 2026, I want to take a moment to wish you and your loved ones an early Happy New Year. The holidays can sometimes be bittersweet for me, as they often remind me how much I miss my extended family. Last year, I was incredibly blessed to return to Honduras for the first time in ten years. Here I am with my family ringing in 2025 while visiting the Mayan ruins in Copán—a place I hadn’t been to since 1996. It was truly special being there and reconnecting with my roots.

This year, we’ll be ringing in the new year at home, hosting a game night with our big, diverse, multi-ethnic family. I hope you have a fun New Year’s Eve and a relaxing New Year’s Day doing something you enjoy. Whether you’re surrounded by family and friends or spending quiet time on your own, a new year brings fresh energy and renewed optimism. Let’s carry the spirit of both to begin 2026 with a positive outlook.
I’d also like to invite you to celebrate my birthday on Friday, January 2nd with a karaoke birthday fundraiser at one of my all-time favorite Long Beach restaurants—Honduras Kitchen.
We’ll be serving baleadas—a beloved Honduran staple—and soft drinks. There will also be bar and menu options available for purchase. The karaoke mic will be on whether you want to sing alone or sing along with others. We will be there from 6-9 pm and we hope you join us!
This is our first fundraiser of 2026 in celebration of my 52nd birthday with a suggested contribution of $52. Please click this special link to RSVP so we have enough baleadas ready for you:
NO GIFTS PLEASE. If you can’t make it, I hope you’ll consider making a $52 birthday contribution in support of our campaign.
Thank you, as always, for your support, your encouragement, and your belief in our grassroots effort.
Have a safe and happy New Year! Please take care if you’re traveling, be safe on the road, and carve out a little time to reflect on the year behind us and the one on deck. See you Friday night at my karaoke birthday party!
Sincerely,
Vivian Malauulu
