Today is Election Day!

Email from Vivian

Good morning and Happy Election Day!

I’ve heard from several of you wishing me luck today and I thank you! But just to clarify: I’m not on the ballot today. My election isn’t until June 2nd, so we still have lots of time (and plenty of work!) before that big day arrives.

That said, I do want to take this opportunity to remind everyone to please get out there and vote, especially if you live in California. This is an important election with Proposition 50 on the ballot.

No proposition is perfect because there are pros and cons to every issue. But after taking a deep dive into this one (reading, researching, and reflecting from every angle) our family has decided to vote YES on Proposition 50 because we believe it is one way we can best elect leaders who will fight for good jobs for the hardworking men and women in our community.

In fact, my youngest daughter and I recently spent a Saturday morning phone-banking for the Yes on 50 campaign at the ILWU Memorial Hall, joining fellow volunteers from the labor community to help spread awareness about this important measure.

I wholeheartedly respect those who see it differently and choose to vote against it. Let’s agree to disagree. That’s the beauty of democracy: every voice matters, every vote counts, even if we are not always in sync.

So whether you’re voting yes or no, please make sure you vote today.

Thank you for staying engaged, for caring, and for continuing to show up. The next time we head to the polls — I’ll be on the ballot!

Visit my campaign website to check out the EVENTS page to find out what we’re working on next! Lotería Night was tons of fun last week and our next event promises to be just as unique!

Vote like your future depends on it, because it does!
