Nature and Neighbors: Saturday's Meet and Greet at the Greenbelt!
From Vivian
This is a quick reminder about the “Meet and Greet” that my neighbor and friend, Renee Lawler, is hosting for me tomorrow, Saturday, January 31st, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the west end of 31st Street where it dead ends against the LA River. It is right around the corner from both Renee’s house and mine.
One of the things that makes Long Beach so special is that every part of town has its own character. Here in West Long Beach, there are several distinct, unique neighborhoods and Renee and I live in what’s known as Wrigley. Even within Wrigley there are different pockets: South Wrigley, Wrigley Village, Wrigley Heights, and a very special equestrian community along the Wrigley Greenbelt which is where our homes are.
This green space exists today because neighbors like Renee fought hard to make sure land promised to the community decades ago was preserved — not developed. Thanks to that effort, we now have a beautiful strip of land for walking, jogging, cycling, and picnics! There are houses with barns, stables, and of course, horses!
On Saturday, we’ll spend about an hour sharing the history of this area, meeting other neighbors, and enjoying the Greenbelt together. Light refreshments will be provided.
Even if you don’t live in West Long Beach, you’re absolutely welcome. Come explore a beautiful part of our city with your family, kids, and dogs. The weather is expected to be in the low 80s — perfect for a stroll along the river walk. Don't forget your camera!

Please bring a chair and join us as we talk about this unique and beautiful part of our neighborhood. I hope to see you tomorrow!
