I’m excited to introduce someone very special who is helping lead one of the most important parts of our campaign—our phone banking operation.

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Deaka Monique McClain, our Phone Banking Coordinator.

Deaka and I go way back—we both grew up in the same Del Amo neighborhood in Carson. Life brought us full circle, and we reconnected as adults through our shared commitment to serving the Long Beach community. It means a lot to have someone I trust, respect, and share roots with stepping into this role.

Deaka brings extensive experience organizing both new and seasoned phone bankers, including serving as a volunteer coordinator for local city council campaigns. She creates a supportive, structured, and empowering environment—whether this is your first time or you’ve done this before.

We’re making our phone banking campaign simple, flexible, and effective.

• Step 2: Deaka will personally follow up with you to get you started.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

All phone banking sessions will follow this format:

• 30 minutes of training (for those who need it)

• 1 hour of phone banking

• 30 minutes of debriefing (for those who want it)

Everything will take place on Zoom, and Deaka will remain on the call the entire time to provide guidance and support.

✔️ You will receive a secure login for our PDI system to access voter contact lists

✔️ Step-by-step training will be provided

FIRST ROUND OF PHONE BANKING DATES:

Monday, March 30 from 6–8 PM

Friday, April 3 from 6–8 PM

Saturday, April 4 from 9–11 AM

Monday, April 6 from 6–8 PM

Friday, April 10 from 6–8 PM

Sunday, April 12 from 11 AM–1 PM

Monday, April 13 from 6–8 PM

Friday, April 17 from 6–8 PM

Sunday, April 19 from 6–8 PM

Once you’ve completed the training, you likely won’t need it again. You can jump straight into making calls on your own or continue joining Zoom sessions for support and community.

Experienced phone bankers can also work independently and make calls on their own schedule.

Beginning phone bankers typically make 10–15 calls per hour, while experienced callers can make up to 40 calls per hour.

Our goal is to call 3,000 households in District 7 at least once before Election Day—so we need all hands on deck.

If you’ve never phone banked before, this is a great opportunity to be part of one of the most meaningful aspects of any campaign. This is how elections are won—through real conversations with neighbors who share a vision for our community.

MEET DEAKA

Deaka McClain is a lifelong advocate and a true change agent. Born with cerebral palsy and later diagnosed with dyslexia, she has used her voice to uplift others and fight for equity across multiple communities.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Cal State Long Beach and a Master’s in Public Administration. She serves as a Commissioner on the LA County Commission on Disability and has held leadership roles with the City of Long Beach’s Citizen’s Advisory Commission on Disabilities. She continues to serve on numerous boards and advisory committees supporting disability rights and senior communities.

Deaka is also the Co-Founder and Vice President of Divine Victory Ministries, a nonprofit focused on domestic violence awareness and broader social issues. Her advocacy spans public service, policy, and community organizing—and now, she’s bringing that same passion and leadership to our campaign.

Simply put—Deaka gets things done.
