I’m running for Long Beach City Council!

On September 16, 1981, I boarded a plane in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and landed in Los Angeles with wide eyes and a heart full of promise. I was seven years old, spoke no English, and carried nothing but courage and curiosity.
My family instilled a strong work ethic that prepared me to seize every opportunity. Public-school teachers encouraged me to embrace those opportunities and to exceed every expectation. The close-knit communities of my youth fostered a pride in me that gave me the confidence to step up and make a difference.
My Journey to West Long Beach
That spirit of possibility has guided me ever since. In 2000, it led my husband George and me to West Long Beach where we chose to raise our family. Together we’ve worked hard to build a life here and give back to our community as educators, neighbors, and longshore workers. As an LBCC trustee, I have consistently looked out for working families like ours.
Today—exactly forty-four years after that first flight—I’m ready for the next chapter of this journey. I am running for Long Beach City Council District 7 because I am determined to advocate for the community that welcomed us, shaped us, and continues to inspire everything we do.

Walking the Walk
From establishing the Harbor Area's first Labor Center, to launching the popular Beach Flea that continues to help small businesses rebound after the pandemic, to fighting to protect the health care and pensions of 30,000 port workers and their families, I don’t just talk about problems—I roll up my sleeves and solve them.
Now it’s time to take that commitment and determination to City Hall because West Long Beach families deserve:
Safe, clean streets: faster illegal-dumping pickups, dangerous potholes filled, dated streets repaved, broken lights repaired, and real accountability from city departments
A better daily quality of life: traffic solutions, greener buffers, cleaner air, and well-maintained parks
Small-business champions: quicker permits, storefront improvements, local-buy initiatives, and targeted grants to help our local small businesses thrive
Pathways to good jobs: apprenticeships, career-technical training, and employer partnerships that open doors for youth and adult learners
Join the Journey
This campaign is about all of us writing the next chapter of a West Long Beach that empowers every neighbor, values every family, supports every business, and strengthens every future. Here’s how you can help:
Validate our vision with a 7 (or 77-word) quote (sample: “Vivian is the right candidate right now”)!
Dedicate 7 (or 77) hours to our community driven campaign by knocking on doors, making phone calls, or hosting a meet-and-greet with your neighbors!
Contribute $7 (or $77) to power our grassroots effort!
Join us at our Community Campaign Kick-Off hosted by Senator Lena Gonzalez on Saturday, October 11 from 12-2 PM at Casa Chaskis on the West Side!

With the same excitement, gratitude, and wonder that filled that 7-year-old little girl on her first flight, let’s continue this journey together—straight to City Hall. Please share this message with your family and friends so they can join us, too!
Blessings and love,
Vivian Malauulu
