You're Invited: Music & Mingle at the World Famous V.I.P. Records!

Email from Tenisha Anderson

I’m Tenisha Anderson, Chief Operating Officer of the World Famous V.I.P. Records, a name that represents not just music, but the heart and soul of Long Beach. Many of you know my father, Kelvin Anderson, Sr., who is a pillar in our community and the proud owner of this historic cultural landmark.

Growing up as a “record shop kid,” I was immersed in a world of sound, creativity, and connection. My parents, siblings, uncles, aunts, and cousins were deeply rooted in the music scene from the 1960s to present day. Our home and our work at V.I.P. Records have always been filled with rhythm, laughter, and storytelling. That foundation of community and creativity shaped me into the woman I am today: a mother, a businesswoman, and a community partner deeply committed to preserving culture and inspiring others.

Through the years, I’ve had the incredible privilege of learning from and sharing space with musical legends like Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, The Jacksons, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and many more. Their artistry and authenticity taught me the power of expression, the importance of community, and the magic that happens when we use our gifts to uplift others.

That same spirit of community connection led me to reconnect with my childhood friend Vivian Malauulu when she was first elected as a trustee at Long Beach City College in 2016. We worked together on several projects, including bringing the very first National Radio Day celebration to LBCC in partnership with VIP Records back in 2017. Since then, we have continued to collaborate on community initiatives that uplift and empower our neighbors.

Here I am with my Dad, Kelvin Anderson, Sr., and Vivian at the 75th Anniversary of the Trades and Technology Campus (formerly Pacific Coast Campus) in October 2024.

When I learned that Vivian was running for City Council to represent West Long Beach, I didn’t hesitate for a second to offer her our support. I know her heart. I know her work ethic. I’ve seen firsthand her unwavering commitment to fairness, opportunity, and community. Vivian is thoughtful, fearless, and deeply rooted in the values that make Long Beach so special. I truly believe that Vivian is the woman for the job. She is a leader who listens, serves, and stands up for all of us.

To celebrate that spirit of leadership and creativity, we’re hosting a special “Music & Mingle” fundraiser for Vivian this Sunday November 16 at World Famous V.I.P. Records. Trust me, this is an experience you don’t want to miss!

Tenisha Anderson
