Neighborhood Kid: Book Signing Brunch
Email from David McGill-Soriano
My name is David McGill-Soriano. I'm a neighborhood kid born and raised in Long Beach.
I published a book that serves as a playbook wrapped in storytelling: NEIGHBORHOOD KID: don't just make it out, make it better. It's a call to action for young people to take a stand on violence. A blueprint for how to change our neighborhoods.
I grew up on the Westside: Springdales, Webster, Cabrillo, Silvo, Admiral Kidd. It was my playground, and I have so much love for it. But I don't ignore the problems in our backyard. That's not what we do. We address them with real solutions for long-term change.
So when Vivian told me she was running for City Council, I knew there could be no better representative for District 7 of Long Beach. Vivian is the real deal. She doesn't just talk about problems. She gets things done and really solves things.
I met Vivian at a community event years ago. Anytime I meet I fellow change maker, I try to see how genuine their intentions are. Vivian was through and through: authentic, motivated, and ready to do something to turn things around.

That's why I am honored to host a Book Signing Brunch with Vivian in her own home in the neighborhood this Saturday. We are going to discuss the story behind growing up in one of the most gang-violent areas in the city, what young people can do to make their block safe, and how we can all play a part in making Long Beach the healthiest and safest place for a young person to grow up.
Because we can't just make it out. We have to make it better, too.
At the event, we'll build community in these ways:
Discuss the story that inspired NEIGHBORHOOD KID
Engage in dialogue that feels like a walk in the neighborhood
Take photos and build relationships
Receive an autographed copy of the book

See you in the neighborhood.
Much love,
